Prof. Cesar Liberato Petzhold

          Cesar L. Petzhold earned his diploma in chemistry at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in 1986. Master’s degree at the Institute of Chemistry (UFRGS). From Aug 1989-Feb 1990 he worked at a petrochemical industry and in Feb 1990 he became lecturer at the Organic Department of the Institute of Chemistry (UFRGS). From 1991-1994 he worked on his doctoral thesis at the Organic Chemistry Institute of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz (Prof. R. Stadler) on: “The anionic homo- and copolymerization of aminofunctionalized 1,3-diene” to receive his doctoral degree (Dr. rer. Nat.) in 1994. Since 1997 he has regularly visited German Universities and research institutes (University of Mainz, University of Bayreuth, University of Tübingen, Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research) on CAPES/DAAD-PROBRAL missions. From 2007-2011 he was vice-director and from 2011-2015 director of the Institute of Chemistry (UFRGS) and since 2015 he was Full Professor at the Organic Chemistry Department. His research focuses on the synthesis of functionalized monomers, materials from renewable resources, dental materials, amphiphilic copolymers, controlled polymerization and polymer characterization techniques.
